Capability News

As 2019 draws to a close, ICN Consultants around the country are busy working with suppliers and major project owners to ensure Australian business remains viable.

The final Capability News of the year includes stories about some major upcoming opportunities in both NSW and SA, as well as some initiatives from around the country.

More than 40 years after the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric scheme was complete, the full vision being realised with Snowy 2.0. ICN NSW is working with two major project owners on the Snowy 2.0 – the Future Generation JV and Voith Hydro to ensure local content is maximised.

In Queensland, Shell QGC has launched its Local and Indigenous Suppliers Portal powered by the Online Procurement System (OPS). The portal integrates with ICN Gateway, so when you register on the Shell Local Suppliers Portal, it will pull through your business details from your ICN profile.

The Solar River Project in South Australia’s mid-north looks set to be one of the world’s largest grid-scale hybrid renewable projects, and ICN SA are working with the project owners to source local companies interested in becoming involved.

Staying in South Australia, investors and businesses looking for opportunities in the state will be able to get all the information they need from the South Australian Investment Atlas, which includes a drop-down menu option for users to filter results based on ICN company profile information.

Meanwhile, in a mapping project up north, ICN NT has joined forces with NT Power and Water to develop the NT Aboriginal Content Finder (NTACF). This interactive map uses ICN’s supplier database to find Aboriginal businesses and those with a high number of Aboriginal employees.

Once again, Victoria is celebrating yet another successful Manufacturing Showcase. With 74 exhibitors and about 800 attendees, the 2019 event was the biggest and best yet.

We also bring you news of some of ICN’s success stories for 2019, showcasing Sitzler and Halikos, as well as in the small NSW Riverina town of Colleambally, where ICN consultant Klaus Baumgartel draws on his experience to help REEF Renewable Energy and the Coleambally Ethanol plant source opportunities to add value to the product of the small plant.

From all of us at ICN, we wish you the best for the holiday season and trust you will have a safe, happy and prosperous New Year.

Expanding the Snowy scheme's original vision

The Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme remains one of Australia’s greatest feats of engineering. Now, more than 70 years after construction of the scheme began, it is being expanded with Snowy 2.0.

ICN NSW is working with two major contractors for Snowy 2.0 – Future Generation Joint Venture and Voith Hydro – who have been appointed to deliver the project on behalf of Snowy Hydro Limited.

Renewable energy project to create jobs and lower carbon emissions

South Australia is set to be the home of one of the world’s largest grid-scale hybrid renewable projects, and ICN SA are working with the project owners to source local companies interested in becoming involved.

The Solar River Project will be built near Robertstown in the state’s mid-north and is expected to supply enough renewable energy to power 90,000 South Australian homes. It will connect to the Australian National Grid via a 275,000-volt transmission line.

Behind the scenes successes

ICN consultants draw on local knowledge, industry contacts and deep understanding of supply-chains to help small and medium Australian businesses land contracts and source subcontractors and suppliers.

Two of the Northern Territory’s largest privately-owned construction business have teamed up with ICN NT to develop Gateway portals for a number of projects across the Top End, as well as South Australia and Western Australia.

Shell QGC portal to boost local engagement

ICN and Online Procurement Services have teamed up with Shell’s QGC business to create a portal designed to advertise supply chain opportunities with both Shell QGC and several of its major contractors.

Shell QGC’s Supplier Portal is integrated with the ICN Gateway. This means that when businesses register on the Portal, details from that business’ ICN profile can be pulled through to the Portal, making it quick and easy to sign up.

Boost for SA investment

Investors and businesses looking for the best opportunities in South Australia will be able to get all the information they need from the South Australian Investment Atlas.

The State Government launched the Investment Atlas to provide key location-based information to support decisions about business investments in South Australia. Users can to see a property for sale, check that it has right infrastructure and zoning and contact the estate agent.

Supporting Aboriginal business growth in the Territory

ICN NT has joined forces with Power and Water Corporation in the Northern Territory to develop the NT Aboriginal Content Finder (NTACF), an interactive map that uses ICN’s supplier database to find Aboriginal businesses and those with a high number of Aboriginal employees.

The database is a result of longstanding partnership between Power and Water and ICN NT, with both organisations keen to support and built the capacity of Aboriginal companies.

The Victorian Manufacturing Showcase 2019

On Tuesday 22nd October, the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South, thirty-five minutes from Melbourne CBD, hosted the 2019 edition of the Victorian Manufacturing Showcase (VMS19). For each of the last six years, ICN Victoria has partnered with the Victorian Government to deliver VMS, a true celebration of Victoria’s great manufacturing community.

This year the Melbourne East Regional Economic Development Group (MEREDG), made up of six Eastern Melbourne Councils, was also part of the organising committee as well as the Headline Sponsor.
