Indigenous construction company Barpa has won a major contract in the redevelopment of Katherine’s RAAF Base Tindal, necessary to maintain the capability of the base.

The full scope of the redevelopment stage 6 project includes:

• providing the infrastructure and trunk engineering services to support the growth in demand from expansion in Base activities
• replacing facilities or equipment at the end of their useful and economic life, which no longer perform to the required specification
• reducing ongoing maintenance costs, by installing more efficient or modern infrastructure.

A second component of the project is to increase the capacity of RAAF Base Tindal to support KC-30A Multi Role Tanker Transport operations

Managing Contractor, Lendlease, awarded Barpa the Workers Accommodation Village (WAV) Expansion package.

Founded in 2014, Barpa Construction Services is a standalone Indigenous construction management company with locations across the country

Barpa, “to build” in the language of Victoria’s Dja Dja Wurrung people, is certified by Supply Nation and offers an Indigenous solution for capital works projects.

According to its website, the company is “committed to making a positive difference for Australia’s first people, and we embed this commitment in every part of our business.” Its vision is to ‘Empower Indigenous people and businesses through building Australian Infrastructure’.

This is the third of the early works packages to be awarded, with Northern Rise Village services winning the contract to operate the worker’s village and Sunbuild Pty successful in its bid to build the living in accommodation. Five have now been awarded.
