Drivers traveling to and from Batemans Bay along the Princes Highway will enjoy a new 4-lane bridge across the Clyde River.

The $274m Batemans Bay Bridge replacement project is a NSW government initiative that will build better connections for motorists, freight, river users, pedestrians and cyclists in and around the coastal town.

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has engaged John Holland to construct the new Batemans Bay Bridge over the Clyde River. Major work started in early 2019 and is planned to be complete in early 2023. At its peak, the project will employ more than 200 specialist, skilled and unskilled staff.

The project includes constructing a new four-lane bridge, as well as:

• Relocating utilities
• Connecting both the northern and southern foreshores
• Upgrading existing roundabouts on the northern side of Clyde River
• Demolishing the existing bridge
• Establishing a precast yard in Mogo

“Piling for the first of five piers has commenced, and other activities scheduled over the next three months include building a temporary construction jetty on the southern foreshore, pouring the first of 168 concrete segments at the new pre-cast facility, for the balanced canti-lever bridge construction,” ICN Consultant Wally Hirsch said.

“We started our engagement with local industry and the community at a Business Information Session in Batemans Bay on March 22, which also launched the project on the ICN Gateway.”

The project has 18 work packages opening and closing throughout the life of the project. As of 21 May ICN Gateway had received 157expressions of interest.

“The project is expected to boost the local economy through providing local jobs, engaging local contractors and suppliers, and generally increasing local economic activity during the course of the project,” Wally said.
